We currently have Mary Anning, Katherine Johnson, Mae Jemmison, Marie Curie and Jane Goodall that are in our SOW and taught through STEAM week activities. But admittedly more men are mentioned. I plan to add more women to our SOW.

We have female engineers visiting school and a female contact from the AMRC. We also have female role models within school in the STEAM subjects .

              Hi Catherine,

That’s fantastic that you’re already including female role models within your SoWs and also giving students opportunity to speak with female STEM professionals personally. When you teach the STEAM week activities, are those individuals mentioned in a ‘women in STEM’ context, or more generally as part of wider projects?

              Hi Iona,

We have done it in both ways. During STEAM weeks we generally discuss and learn about a wide range of scientists, always including women. We have had focuses on women in STEM during lessons and highlighted through displays.
